Trip to Rice, Texas to tour all the Casita models and put down a deposit

I finally did it! I traveled to Rice, Texas in May 2021 to put down the deposit on my very own, brand spanking new, Casita Independence Deluxe.

It’s a round trip for me of almost 2,000 miles. The journey is split up into 5 days of driving with some side trips to visit The French Quarter in New Orleans and to check out a dog kennel, Southern Scotties (yes, I am getting a Scottish Terrier puppy!) and a stop at my Mom’s house.

I’ve been told by a Casita representative that my Casita will not be ready to pick up until August 2022…there is currently a 12 month, or more, lead time from ordering to pickup or delivery.

Casita cancellation policy

The deposit is $2,000.00 and if you decide to cancel your order with in 30 days of order placement, they will refund you $1,400.00. If you cancel 31+ days of the order date you will be refunded $800.00. (These refund amounts are current as of May 2021).

It was a grey dreary day in Rice, Texas back in May 2021.
Look at all the fiberglass eggs waiting to be picked up by happy new owners!

The sales representative I spoke with was very helpful and went out of his way to let me sit in and admire all the different models. I was torn between the Liberty and the Independence models…the Independence won out due to the 3 burner stove and it’s location on the drivers side and the extra storage underneath the twin bed configuration. The campers that I toured just felt “right” to me. Solid, cozy, efficient…everything my Wee Smial should be.

I’ve ordered the following upgrades:

  • Awning
  • Outside shower
  • Fresh water tank upgrade
  • LED interior bulbs
  • Aluminum alloy wheels
  • Deep cycle AGM battery
  • Electric tongue jack
  • Anderson weight distirbution hitch
  • IND/LIB roller shades
  • Folding shelf
  • Surge protector
  • Casita tool kit
  • High lift suspension package
  • Cable Ready

The one item I’m thinking of adding is the solar prep. It may be real handy to have that wiring already in place. I am not going to have the factory microwave installed. I think the extra pantry space will be more useful to me and I can always pick up a small microwave if I do decide I need one.

The wait until August 2022 is going to be filled with planning out some mods and future trips. I also need to finalize the plan to park the Casita in my backyard. More on that in another post. 🙂
